Mint Museum of Toys

After visiting Asian Civilisations Museum, on Saturday I went to another museum located in the city and it is not some ordinary museum. As what the title says, it is a toys museum. This time I am not alone because Jin is also interested on this compared to the previous one.

no, this is not the museum. This is Raffles Hotel located beside Raffles City and the museum is on the other side of the hotel.

entrance of museum

it is not a huge building like others and the museum is actually a 5 storey shop lot with cafe at the lower ground floor.

Mint Shop that sells toys and souvenirs

we are studying in Singapore so instead of SGD15 per ticket, we only need to pay SGD 7.50. If from Malaysia, all you need is bring along your passport, only valid for students. After got our tickets, we went straight to 5th floor, Outerspace

again, no flash allow while taking photos, so quality not that good

we've been greeted by robots, spaceships, ray gun and many more from over 20 countries with some as old as 100 over year old.

first robot, Robby the Robot. Estimate value USD5,000

varieties of robots, spaceships and space weapons...

some of these characters I dont really know them but they are famous back then..

Buck Rogers in his space rocket

the very famous Star Wars characters...

Dan Dare, one of the two in the world

Dan Dare's donuts holder look a like walkie talkie...

other than these, there are also Thunderbirds, Flash Gordon and Star Trek.

Then we move on to 4th floor, Characters

but before that, there is one whole shelf of Astro Boy and few Godzilla at the stair case.

Astro Boy's figures

Astro Boy in real life...dont really work out if you ask me...

in level 4, Characters. We know quite a numbers of them because they are more well known during our childhood time. But I prefer the latest version instead of the original versions, continue reading and you will know why...

Snoopy and Woodstock

Flinstone

Tin Tin, the western side of Conan. Jin said, Tin Tin inspired people to start spiking their hair upwards according to research.

Popeye the Sailor Man. After so many years, now only we know how he got his name. It is actually mean Pop-eye the Sailor Man.

one of the 4 known to exist in the world, Popeye pushing tank. Estimated value USD 14,000.

this shows that King Kong is really friendly and will cause no harm to human

Batman action figure. Estimated value USD14,000

James Bond

Kato from Green Hornet which played by Bruce Lee. Hollywood plan to remake this movie starring Seth Rogen as Green Hornet. Stephen Chow suppose to be Kato and direct the movie but he stepped down from becoming the director.

Superman, Spiderman and Captain America

Father Ultraman, Ultraman Seven and first Ultraman

the hero before turning into Ultraman.

Kame Rider or Mask Rider or Black Fertilizer (Baja Hitam) vs Thunder Cat???

there are others heroes from Japan, USA and other countries but dont really know them.

Then we move to 3rd floor, Childhood favorites

This level starts with animals, as I said I prefer the later version instead of the original version. here is why...

Bonzo the Dog. Not an ordinary cartoon dog but he is a smoker, drinker, gambler and like to look up to girl's skirt. One horny bastard and bad influence dog for children. Wonder why they created him at the first place.

guess who is this?? it is Felix the Warewolve Cat

here is Donald Duck 2nd version I believe...

Mickey miao with Walt Disney..a rare one..

Winnie the Pooh Grizzly Bear

others like Dennis the Menace, Noddy, Minnie, Goofy and other Teddy Bears. But one thing really caught our eyes.

super racist toys, but they are all smilling happily

then there are Door of Hope dolls from China

Betty Boop, old time diva..

Barbie collections...

other dolls from China..

first doll by Michael Lee. Quite an interesting story on how Michael Lee started his doll making career...

lastly we came to 2nd floor on Collectables...

from here, we saw same toys that made from many countries like these climbing monkey

from West Germany to Eastern Europe, Japan, China, USA or even India, in those days before the global market have trademarks, patents, copyrights and lawyers. Anyone can copy and re-produce anything.

the toy some believe that inspired Steve Irwin.....neh, I am just joking.

the annoying money...

cars...

most sponsored car...lol

original Chucky??? it is Pop-eye doll, the eyes will pop out like The Mask saw hot chick

other than these, there are many other toys like bike riders, dogs, cats, rabbits, circus people, clowns and vihicles like cars, busses, fire trucks, air plane and ships like this one.

its a cruise..

the Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Memorabilia

match boxes with cars, each picture printed on the match box have its own car model.

there are also old time games like marble balls (guli), 5 guni sack, gasing and many more.

here is one of the polictical influence toys...

toys from Malaysia!!!

Charlie Chaplin!!!

a toy that get your child ready for real driving test...maybe there are 500 undang questions inside.

lastly, it is Beatles collections...

there are many more toys with total around 460 photos. I will upload them in facebook soon, maybe not all but most of them.

In my opinion, the museum is too small and the toys are not well organised. Maybe a more spacious place with better lighting allow visitors to have clearer view on these valuable collections. But overall it is ok because I never seen before most of these toys.

as been said in the brochure by Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. George Yeo and wife Jennifer Yeo "A museum of toys and not a toy museum - the realisation of a dream of a man and his wife who believed in him"

so, guys out there. if you really like to collect toys, just do it!!!

maybe 1 day, my Pokemon collections will be valuable too...hmmm~

I got my souvenirs from Mint Museum. It is a Popeye bookmark, I've started picking up reading finally. Took me damn long to finish reading The Hobbit, now is time to finish Men from Mars, Women from Venus. Hopefully will understand more about relationship through this book.

National Library

I am just 13 days away before going back to KL again. But my business plan still not done and have 3 subjects to revise on. Busy week ahead and after that will be holiday!!!
